Thomas Swenson has worked in a variety of settings in his 30 plus year counseling career. He is originally from Madison, WI, and is a graduate of the University Of Wisconsin-Madison, with an MS in Counseling Psychology/Behavioral Disabilities in 1980.
Thomas has worked in community mental health programs, an emergency room setting, a hospital based physical and medical rehabilitation program (PM&R), private sector clinics, disability insurance programs, and substance abuse clinics. For the past 15 years he has provided critical incident and stress management rapid response services on site to the regional business community through employee assistance programs to aid employees who have experienced workplace trauma, and loss and grief.
Thomas has been a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) since counselor licensure was first available in Illinois in 1995, being one of the first counselors to obtain the LCPC designation.
Clinical approaches are always geared toward the needs of the individual client. Thomas is experienced and very comfortable with such techniques as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relaxation and guided imagery, as well as psychoeducational skill training, dynamic approaches, and 12 step work.
